Cormack Leg Eleven Packaging Design - Choco Roll! 2.5L Chocolate Milk packaging

The target market is children aged 5-6. Children at this age are usually more interested in process than products; they are easily motivated and eager to try something new. They want do everything themselves and seek adult approval. Of course they would like to pour the chocolate milk themselves like the grown-ups do. However, with the full 2.5L bottle, they are easily to spill it. Children at aged 5 to 6 will be able to lift the bottle, but they cannot get balanced when pouring the liquid into the cup, so there is great chance they will spill the chocolate milk on the table.

The existing large bottles in the market are all not easy for children to pour, neither the size nor the shape. They cannot balance themselves when pouring the chocolate milk with one hand and the other hand holding the cup. It is still not easy for them even with both hands holding the bottle.

To solve the problem, an efficient way is to make the shape of the bottle more controllable when pouring. A hexagon shape is designed to be the bottle as all the surface are flat and can sit on the table safely. So children can change the angle of the bottle when pouring by rotating the bottle instead of lifting the bottle and pour. This can reduce the chance of spilling the liquid on the table. When the bottle is full, rotate once and the bottle sits on the table at a different angle, then it starts pouring; when the bottle is nearly empty or rotating once does not work, just put the bottle at the edge of the table, rotate the bottle twice and the bottle sits on the table at a different angle and start pouring.

HDPE is selected as the material for both the main body and the caps as it is strong enough for the bottle and easy to be blow molded. Blow molding is selected as the process for the main body and injection molding is selected as the process of the caps. The cap is also redesigned, there are two parts of the cap, and the top cap is molded separately and then pushed onto the normal cap. The shape of the top cap is easier for children to open comparing to the normal small caps.

  1. Good rendering and good demonstration of how to use milk bottle. The idea of turning the milk bottle around to pour milk is very clever. It does help a lot especially for children as they don't have enough strength to control such a big milk bottle. However, if the poster can include a child hand holding the milk bottle will be much better.

  2. Great work on the design. Its very practical design and is definitely the answer to some of the spills i remember from my childhood. The posters are well detailed and very informative apart from the ergonomics of the product. Very good work.

  3. This is a good idea for a problem that I still have even now as an adult. Trying to find a way to help make such a heavy product easy to use is difficult if you want to keep the weight. Its interesting in coming up with a shape that helps to pour the contents, you have also come up with a unique shape for bottles. I think an improvement to the posters could be a comparison of a child using the product, with the normal product. So have the size of the childs hands pouring the bottle.

  4. Good work on the posters and rendering. I think the graphics would also be appealing for children. It looks abit heavy tho so i don't know if children themselves would be able to pour the milk, so I think it's important to put that into consideration. It's definitely an upgrade to what typical milk bottle looks like, but it looks like it's easy to put on shelves and it definitely still has that feature of a milk bottle.
